Bass-baritone Leo Selleck studied anthropology at Durham University and singing at the Royal College of Music, and has previously practised as a social worker. At the RCM Leo studied with Peter Savidge, was a Josephine Baker Scholar and took part in masterclasses with Ben Johnson and Susan Manoff, as well as opera scenes, performing as Don Alfonso Cosi fan Tutte and Warden Dead Man Walking. In 2023, Leo was accepted to take part in the Przemysl International Opera Competition in Poland and in 2024 joined the Glyndebourne Festival chorus for the summer and autumn seasons. Leo was also a finalist in the 2024 Mastersingers Competition for the promotion of young British Wagner singers (https://mastersingers.org.uk).
On the opera stage, he most recently made a role debut as Marchese d'Obigny La Traviata for the 2025 Grange Festival, where he also sung chorus and covered Frosch in Die Fledermaus. Other opera roles have included Leporello Don Giovanni, Sciarrone/Carceriere Tosca, Il Conte Le Nozze di Figaro, a critically acclaimed Huascar/Bellone Les Indes Galantes, Sailor Dido and Aeneas, Antonio Le Nozze di Figaro and Morales Carmen. Leo has been involved in contemporary opera as well, as an original cast member for the award winning 'Brainland' project (www.brainlandtheopera.co.uk), most recently recording scenes in April 2024. Leo is in demand as an oratorio singer with recent performances including Mozart Requiem at Canterbury Cathedral, Handel Messiah at Lincoln Cathedral, Haydn The Creation with Jeremy Summerly, Mozart Requiem at the Cadogan Hall, Brahms Requiem at St-Martin-in-the-Fields and in Oxford, Schutz St Matthew Passion at Douai Abbey, and Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle in Sussex.
Future plans include a role debut as Sharpless as well as chorus for ENO in Autumn 2025.
